Located in the eastern
part of Northeast China's Helilongjiang province, Qitaihe
has a total population of approximately 800,000. Qitaihe has grown
from its initial roots as a small coal mining settlement to an
important city which today has over 500,000 inhabitants in its
urban area.
On commencing the twenty five year operational contract in 2001,
the joint venture (Qitaihe CW) , established
between The China Water Company (CW) and Qitaihe Water Company,
took over an existing 20Mld water treatment plant. It has since
constructed and now operates a new 100Mld plant, pumping stations
and raw water pipelines.
The raw water source for the treatment plant comes from the
Taoshan reservoir, which is just one kilometre from the
city.
The treatment facilities treat surface water
and consist of:
• Raw Water Pump House
• Inlet Chamber
• Chemical Dosing
• Flocculation
• Settlement/DAF Tanks
• Rapid Gravity Filters
• Treated Water Storage (2 x 75,000m capacity)
• Treated Water Pumps
The completion of the new treatment plant provided the local
partner, Qitaihe Water Company, with the capacity to substantially
expand its service area for water supply in the city. The service
population has been increased from 100,000 to 200,000 since the
start of the joint venture. In September 2008, Qitaihe CW obtained
the ISO9001-2000 quality management system certification
for production of potable water through DNV.
