Located in Heibei
Province on the banks of the Chaobai River , the Yanjiao
Economic and Technological Development Zone (ETDZ) faces
Beijing across the river and is 30 kilometres east of Tiananmen
square. Yanjiao ETDZ covers an area of more than 80 square kilometres
and integrates science and technology with manufacturing, tourism,
finance and commercial activities. It has attracted investors
from more than 10 countries and a total foreign investment of
USD 2.5 billion. In 2001, Yanjiao ETDZ was approved as a priority
export base for the software industry in Hebei province.
In October 2001, a CJV (Yanjiao CW) was established
as a joint venture between The China Water Company (CW) and Sanhe
Yanjiao Water Company to develop and manage the water supply in
Yanjiao ETDZ.
This water supply project includes construction of new water
treatment facilities and operation of existing boreholes for raw
water, treated water storage and delivery to pipe network. Yanjiao
CWC supplies an area of 30 square kilometers with a population
of around 300,000. The new water treatment facilities were completed
in two phases with a total supply capacity of 60 Mld.
The first phase of the project involved renovation
of an existing 20 Mld water treatment works.
The second phase was to build water treatment
facilities of 40 Mld. Construction was completed in Aug. 2003
.
The raw water is from 3 well-groups comprising 20 boreholes (depth
300m) located 10 km away from the plant. Raw water pumps are 22m
under the ground so as to ensure constant, reliable and good quality
water. The treatment process is controlled fully automatically
with imported equipment. Water quality and supply safety are ensured
by advanced security monitoring systems. In order to meet rapidly
increasing demand, CW has embarked on an investment programme
in 2008 to enhance the raw water capacity by refurbishing existing
boreholes and acquiring new ones.
The water supply system comprises boreholes
for the raw water supply followed by:
• chlorination
• automatic control system
• Two treated water storage tanks each with a capacity of 4,000m3
In November 2004, Yanjiao CW obtained ISO9001-2000
quality management system certification through DNV.
