Recent News from the Managing Director

China Water’s Main Shareholder, Cascal, has a New Owner

Sembcorp Industries from Singapore recently announced that they have acquired a majority shareholding in Cascal. This is very positive news for China Water in a number of ways. Firstly, Sembcorp is a large company with 9,000 employees and a keen determination to expand its water and wastewater business in China and other parts of the world. Secondly, Sembcorp’s 6 existing operations in China are mainly in the wastewater sector, therefore complimenting China Water’s 6 operations in the water sector. Thirdly and most importantly, Sembcorp values above all else the contributions made by each of its employees – this is clearly illustrated in the recent letter sent out by Tang Kin Fei, Sembcorp’s Group President and Chief Executive Officer.

China Water Attains Further ISO Success in Yanjiao and Xinmin

China Water’s progress with quality management and ISO accreditation has recently taken two further big steps forward. Our joint venture companies in Yanjiao and Xinmin have both attained ISO 14001 and 18001 accreditation to add to their existing ISO 9001 accreditations. This brings the total number of ISO accreditations within the China Water group to 11. I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate our staff in Yanjiao and Xinmin on this significant achievement which further strengthens China Water’s commitment to safeguarding the local environment and ensuring proper standards of health and safety management in all of its operations.

Long Hot Weather Period Hits China

As you know, China has recently experienced a prolonged period of very hot weather. Whilst this is enjoyable for tourists and holidaymakers, it has resulted in record levels of water demand in several of our companies. This puts additional stress on our staff, not to mention our treatment plants and networks.  I would like to thank all of China Water’s staff for your hard work and commitment during this difficult period; I also hope you will be able to find a little time during the summer to take some rest and prepare for interesting and challenging work ahead with our new owner, Sembcorp.
